First we identify the damage. 

Next we have to sand down the damaged area to remove any loose or rough edges and key up the area to allow full adhesion of the filler.

Now we have to apply a flexible filler to the door trim. We use a flexible filler as the door card is slightly padded. A lot of smart  repairers use super glue at this stage which WILL crack and split at a later date.
